Ryžovna is the ideal destination for an afternoon trip. It lies on the popular nature trail Blatná Water Ditch and is an ideal stop for a rest, a good lunch and learning a bit about the history of the village.
A little bit of the history of Ryžovna...
The village was founded sometime around the mid 16th century. First, it was part of the so-called “Hřebečný land”, to which e.g. Boží Dar, or Horní Blatná belonged. It became an independent village as late as 1849. It got the name Ryžovna (German Seifen). Ryžovna received its name after the "panning" of tin ore from the gravel silt. In the local mines silver and cobalt were also mined; and after the WWII also uranium. Although there once lived up to 800 inhabitants in 70 houses, there was a church and a school, today it is one of the loneliest, nearly vanished villages in the Ore Mountains. The main reason for the depopulation of the village was the postwar expulsion of the German population and the rough mountain climate.
From Boží Dar to Ryžovna...
Ryžovna is 6 km to the west of Boží Dar. The road leads here which is copied by the tourist cycling path and by a nature trail Blatná Water Ditch. We recommend the trip to Ryžovna both to tourists and cyclists.
